A common myth: wearing your faja tighter and longer than recommended gets you better results. It doesn't: here's what actually matters.
Myth: Tighter Is Always Better
Over-tight compression can restrict circulation, cause discomfort severe enough that patients stop wearing it consistently, and create pressure points on healing tissue.
Myth: Longer Than Recommended Speeds Healing
Your body heals on its own timeline regardless of how long you're compressed. Wearing a garment well past your surgeon's recommendation can cause irritation without added benefit.
A General Timeline
- Stage 1: ~2–4 weeks, worn continuously (except showering)
- Stage 2: ~weeks 4–8, worn during the day
- Beyond that: Many patients transition out of compression entirely
Signs You're Overdoing Compression
Numbness, discoloration, lasting indentation marks, or difficulty breathing — check in with your surgeon if you notice any of these.
